FMCSA Eliminates No-Defect DVIRs

FMCSA published a final rule on December 18, 2014 which amends §392.7 and §393.11 of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, with respect to driver inspections.

The change to §392.7 adds additional equipment that drivers are required to inspect, while §393.11 has been amended to eliminate the requirement for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers, operating in interstate commerce, to prepare and submit a daily vehicle inspection report when no defects or deficiencies are found.

These changes are effective starting December 18, 2014.

Note: These changes do not apply to drivers of passenger carrying CMVs who will continue to prepare and submit a daily inspection report at the end of each day’s use.
