About Michigan Center for Truck Safety

The Michigan Center for Truck Safety was established to provide training on the regulations and requirements for the trucking industry and the general public.

OUR MISSION

To improve truck safety by providing Michigan’s trucking industry and the citizens of Michigan with effective educational programs, and by addressing significant truck safety issues.

As a result of the Michigan Motor Carrier Safety Act amendment of 1990, Michigan businesses that operate trucks are subject to all or some Federal rules and regulations regarding trucking. Additional requirements come from the Michigan Vehicle Code and, in some instances, the Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations.

The Michigan Center for Truck Safety is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving highway safety on Michigan’s roadways, through comprehensive safety educational programs for Michigan’s trucking industry. These services and programs are sponsored by the Michigan Truck Safety Commission (MTSC) and funded through a grant from Michigan Trucking Association (MTA) Education Center Inc.

With a focus on state and federal trucking regulations, our skilled staff of safety professionals conduct a variety of programs for both truck drivers and management personnel.

ABOUT US

About Michigan Center for Truck Safety

In 1984, the U.S. Congress passed the Motor Carrier Safety Act. This Act laid out the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, which establish minimum safety standards and recordkeeping requirements for all motor carriers operating in interstate commerce. These regulations still apply to both private and for-hire motor carriers of cargo and passengers.

In 1990, Michigan amended the Michigan Public Act 181 of 1963 (or, the Michigan Motor Carrier Safety Act) to adopt federal regulations for Michigan motor carriers and drivers operating in Michigan intrastate commerce. As a result of these actions, Michigan businesses that operate trucks are subject to all or some of these rules and regulations. Additional requirements come from the Michigan Vehicle Code and, in some instances, the Federal Hazardous Materials Regulations.

The Michigan Center for Truck Safety was established to provide training on the regulations and requirements for the trucking industry and the general public.

The training and materials have been both insightful and very organized. They were well presented by Dan Litzner who taught our classes. He is very knowledgeable and was willing to explain and answer any questions we had in detail. We would highly recommend their services.”
